I think it does have to do something with the ban. I'm not sure but most possibly that when getting banned, it does limit your ability to do some stuff.

You could probably have been temporary banned, or limited to do some things because you broke a rule?

Ok for the verifying email situation, you probably are playing on a different device that the account doesn't recognize. So it's asking you to go to your email to verify the device you are playing on.
